Ingredient Notes for Best Thai Peanut Sauce

  • Peanut butter: You want to use a creamy peanut butter for this recipe. I use Justin’s All Natural Peanut Butter but you could also sub almond butter if you choose. Keep in mind the flavor will be somewhat different.

  • Agave: You need some kind of sweetener for this sauce but you have some options here. I have used agave in this recipe but you could also use maple syrup or honey.

  • Soy sauce: Again we need some kind of soy-flavored ingredient to get the right balance of flavors. If you are completely vegan and do not want to use soy sauce, I would recommend coconut aminos or Bragg’s liquid aminos. Please do not use tamari in this recipe as it will make your sauce look dark and unappetizing.

then you would avoid the honey option

  • Sesame oil: This one is totally optional. If you like the flavor of sesame oil and want to include that flavor profile in your sauce then I would recommend using a small amount, around one teaspoon. You are already getting fat and oil from the peanut butter so it’s completely fine to leave this one out

Preparation Notes:

  • I have tried mixing this sauce by hand and I do not recommend this. For best results, throw all of the ingredients into a blender or blender cup and blend until smooth.

  • Feel free to adjust the flavors to your liking by experimenting with the amounts. The measurements listed in the recipe are what I have found to work best but you can certainly make adjustments to make it more pleasing to your palate.
